Twi$t$:
- Monetary System: In the twist that would become the signature of the series, $urvivor introduced a monetary system to the game of Survivor: at the start of the season, the castaways received a pre-determined amount of $50,000, to be used for challenges and multiple events throughout the season, all of them who involved the money. The system was meant to replace the physical aspect of the game, adding an extra layer of difficult to the game, as the players are required to maintain good control of their money level.
- Ghost Votes: The Ghost Votes were introduced as a tool for eliminated castaways to have one final say in the game: following their elimination, and before being granted access to confessionals or information that could sway their decision, the players were required to cast one vote for a player still in the game. The vote would be in effect for the next time the players attended tribal council, meaning the votes could stack if more than one eliminated castaway voted for the same player. The twist lasted until Final 5.
- Final Four Legacy Decision: In what would become another game-changing twist and staple of the $urvivor series, the castaway voted out at the Final 4 tribal council is required to make one last decision: choose if the Final Tribal Council will be comprised of two or three players.
- If that player chooses to make it a Final 2, the remaining three castaways will compete in a Final Immunity Challenge, with the winner receiving individual immunity and the right to decide their opponent at the end.
- If the player chooses to make it a Final 3, the remaining three castaways will compete in a reward challenge, where the winner will attain the right to award one of the jurors an Extra Jury Vote at the Final Tribal Council.
