$eason 17 Episode 04: “I'm Channeling My Inner Filipino Politician”
Previously on $urvivor…
$acrifices was the name of the game for impunity, leaving the castaways split on being selfless versus being selfish.
AWESOME:
The more I can stay out of Tribal Council, the better. But unfortunately, that means my iconic red default pfp will be temporarily replaced
COOL:
I'm not gonna keep wasting my own money that I will need down the line to keep someone who I can't work with.
Condado walked away with Impunity. One other tribe would be safe from Tribal Council as well, but they wouldn’t know it until after votes were cast.
$PECIES:
It's termed as a mock tribal as their votes won't end up being read at all for having won impunity and no one will be voted out.
At Miramar, Ari was the target after he sided with Aniya in the minority on the previous vote.
COW:
We don’t know if this tribal is real so we need to make Ari feel like he has numbers and a group in case it isn’t
But Ari was spared after Miramar found out they won Impunity at Tribal Council, meaning Bayola’s votes were real - and most of them were focused on the untalkative Spencer.
$PECIES:
Spencer, the tribe has $poken. It's time for you to go.
18 are left. Who will be voted out next?
Bayola | Condado | Miramar |
Cool | Anna | Alec |
Heidi | Awesome | Ari |
Luka | Fifi | Cow |
Nivy | Fones | Foxy |
Sachi | Sid | Iz |
Yousef | Yale | Wade |
NIGHT 9 - BAYOLA CAMP
COOL:
I was sent to talk to Spencer because I seem to be the person he gravitates to the most. I didn't give him much but we agreed to find a name in the alliance chat that he made. So we did that, and then he brought up that we'd have to take out one of Yousef, Nivy, or Sachi as the people who weren't in that alliance.
So I decided to be a bit devious and I immediately ran to Sachi to tell him what was going down. I explained that Spencer had made the alliance and that he was trying to figure out who to eliminate.
This worked pretty perfectly for me because Sachi immediately freaked out and ran to Spencer to tell him to vote for Nivy. It honestly couldn't have gone down better because I 1) gained trust with Sachi who is an ally I think I'll definitely need and 2) got the vote onto Nivy who I wanted the backup target on anyway. Ultimately, it was a small move, but it was one that made me feel really good about the game. Sometimes it's not the huge flashy plays, it was really nice to just pull off a small move so I could pat myself on the back and say "still got it" under my breath.
LUKA:
I think with only one Nivy vote it was obviously Spencer but still like that is just my luck my vote actually was not even read. I am curious who had the blank vote , if I had to guess I would say Sachi or Yousef. Leaning towards Sachi. I am not mad but I considered it but I did not want to risk it. Money is money, and when I read about the minority tax thing and how you can make money I was like "YEAH I AM DOING THIS EVERY TRIBAL WOW BANK" but actually playing it is much different. And I felt it was more important to vote for Spencer. I will consider it in the future though. it just has to be at the right time. While that was an easy vote it didn't feel right.
NIGHT 9 - MIRAMAR CAMP
ARI:
This is what I was going to say if the vote went through and went my way: There was nothing personal in this vote and I enjoyed our time together and getting to chat. Iz burned the person that would have fought to protect her, and then kept pushing until it backfired. You picked the wrong fight.
Like, Aniya and I would have stuck with her, honestly the entire time. But then she decided to go after me - and gave me way too much ammunition in the process - and it seems as though the tribe picked me over her. Big mistake.
So she might not know it but probably a relief those votes aren't read. But I'm also very relieved by it. Because I don't know how it would have gone, and I wouldn't have been surprised to see 5 votes against me.
I'm happy that I didn't say anything to her over the afternoon. Now that nothing happened there, I think we can patch that back up. Especially if there's a swap coming…
18 feels like a good place for a possible swap, especially knowing how evil $pecies is.
DAY 10 - EVENT
Condado arrives at the challenge beach, eager to see which tribe lost a member. Miramar walks in first, six members strong. Bayola follows, missing Spencer. The castaways exchange looks then turn to $pecies for the next Impunity Challenge. Until…
$PECIES:
Today you won't be playing for tribal impunity. Why? Because it's time for the iconic infamous bloodbath twist! This latest version of the twist has never been done before in this $eries.
Tonight, all 3 tribes will be attending tribal council separately to vote for their new captain who will win the individual impunity $word! Long live democracy!
Each new captain will have a guaranteed spot in the Final 16 and more importantly the $ole power to banish one of their tribemates to the Cave of Corruption.
Once the 3 banished players, one from each tribe, have arrived at CoC, they will be informed what they will need to do to get back into the game!
Shocked, the castaways head back to camp, ready to debate who should be captain, and who should be marked for elimination.
DAY 10 - BAYOLA CAMP
At Bayola, the conversation about captains split down alliance lines: Cool, Heidi, Luca, and Yousef versus Nivy and Sachi.
COOL:
I do not want to be the captain, I just want to make sure Nivy isn't the captain
As long as she's not, we're gucci
Holy shit this is stressful
Okay one of me, Heidi, or Luca needs to get this
I'm nervous Yousef would try something
So Sachi tried to take advantage of the situation, telling his tribe he’d banish Nivy to the Cave of Corruption. But really, he had other plans in mind.
SACHI:
I'm channeling my inner Filipino politician
Aka a corrupt and distrusting one with a hidden agenda
It's in my blood i just know it
I FEEL LIKE MY ACTIONS ARE JUSTIFIED
Because there's a 4 person alliance in a 6-person tribe
Call me a snake or whatever but this is a self preservation
It's survival of the fittest I'm making sure I'm gonna be the fittest man out there
All gloves are off, I'm doing my thing and technically, I'm lying to them rn but what can I do when there's a threat of a 4-person alliance controlling this tribe
My main concern is if we swap at 16
Heidi comes back
I get stuck with either Cool or her or Luka in a tribe
Then I'm dead
And once he offered to be captain, the others started to think it was good for their game, too.
COOL:
Okay so my goal right now is to get Sachi to be the captain
it will build trust with him and also keep #spegat-about-it from getting the blood on our hands
And honestly, I trust Sachi
HEIDI:
Okay having Sachi be captain isn't the WORST idea. It's not the best either. Luka is worried that Sachi would target him....
I mean I could do it. Do I just step up for my alliance to let them feel a little more safe and totally betray Nivy after she said she trusts me?
DAY 10 - CONDADO CAMP
On Condado, Fifi was feeling worried about the captain twist...
FIFI:
Well i should just start packing my bags hey?
But my plan is to nominate either Yale or Anna
I can’t let the leadership goes to Awesome
Do you think they'll accept the mantle of captain?
No
I think Awesome will want it the most, maybe Fones too
Well that sounds like a kink in the plan
...Fones was already working on a target…
FONES:
it really seems like everything is pretty decided at this point
everybody wants Awesome as captain
and everybody (but Sid) wants Sid to go lol
...and Yale was just trying to stay above the fray.
YALE:
Personally, I don’t want to be the new captain. That is a blinking billboard of a target that says VOTE ME OUT EARLY MERGE!! So I am 100% okay with Awesome being our captain because I’m 90% sure he won’t mess with me. I would also be okay with Fifi or Sid being elected our leader.
I’m personally in the “anybody, but me” Sandra mindset for this. Especially with numbers on the tribe so small.
DAY 10 - MIRAMAR CAMP
On Miramar, Iz jumped at the chance to be captain right away.
IZ:
I am so fucking greedy LMFAO
I want to be the fucking captain
Why?
F16 idk
I should probably lay lower though
And her allies were willing to let her step up - even though others were expressing interest.
WADE:
Iz also wants to be captain, and I'm certain she'd also do Ari. But now foxy wants it as well, and we're trying to debate it. Cuz we think he'd do Ari, but we don't want the power being outside the alliance, as that's more risky. But if we do let Foxy be captain and he DOES do Ari that's a best case scenario. Keeps a little blood of our hands if Ari comes back, and brings foxy closer to us
so we're seeing how things shake down
DAY 10 - MORE PRE-TRIBAL SCRAMBLING
With Bayola leaning toward making Sachi the captain, Nivy grew frustrated with the tribe dynamics, and decided to abstain from the vote.
NIVY:
I am pretty much annoyed about this bloodbath. Except for sachi,no one is ready to open up to me about the game. I'm here to play a game and not develop any friendships. We all enjoyed a week's time to develop friendship. Now it's time for game talks! If people are not ready to open up, I can't force them. I tried my level best to get them to talk. If they're not interested, I can't help. I'm pretty much annoyed. So I'm fine with going to the cave and fight there for myself rather than with a fake tribe..
And though Bayola thought Sachi was willing to send Nivy into the bloodbath, Sachi continued to plot a twist of his own.
SACHI:
I think I need to contemplate which person would be more difficult to work with in the long run?
Heidi will def slip through the cracks
Cool will have a huge target on his back
So my first thought is that someone won an advantage to steal 400 dollars
Cool has a higher chance of staying, Heidi probably has less
Why does Cool have a higher chance of staying than hHeidi?
Cool will probably have more social capital to target me in the long run. Heidi probably won't have
I just feel like if it's challenges, Cool will likely stay
But if it's more like being social, Heidi will probably slip through
I think I just have to assess if I'm willing to betray Yousef this early
Cause Yousef and Heidi are apparently close
On Condado, the conversation continued to go in circles.
FONES:
It just seems like no one else wants to be captain
That's the problem, no one wants to have that target on their back.
For me, I'm trying to play a relatively UTR game right now although on edgic I'm either UTR/MOR imo
Probably OTT at times, but never OTT in front of others
Awesome has been playing this game a lot and it seems like he's starting to become more of a shield-like figure to me and Yale and I'm afraid Yale might see me as his shield as well
This isn't to say I'm contributing absolutely nothing
Awesome always checks over what he does with me before doing it. In other words, I'm lowkey controlling him
So the only other problem is abstentions and seeing who's able to easily get the free money
And it appeared on Miramar, a plan was in place.
WADE:
So it sounds like Iz convinced Foxy to vote for her. So Myself, Iz, and Foxy will be voting Iz. Then Alec/Cow got Ari to agree on Cow. This would be a 3-3 split, which we def don't want. So Cow or Alec (probably Cow) are gunna abstain. This means that the final vote SHOULD be: 3 - Iz 2 - Cow 1 - abstain
Iz then sends Ari to CoC.
If he comes back the plan was Cow would act all dumb and be like 'omg i didnt even know i could vote for myself, so i abstained'
or something like that
With the captains twist quickly approaching, the idol search was reaching a fever pitch. Several castaways solved the idol token clue, “brachyphyllacavernarum”, only to come up empty handed, because unbeknownst to them, Yousef had solved the code days earlier.
ALEC:
Damn, well that confirms the existence of other idol hunting groups on other tribes.
I'm gutted though, I really worked for this idol.
And to get nothing after all the money spent and thought put into it, is just brutal
LUKA:
So, Cool discovered the idol code and tried it and it didn't work. Do I believe him? hmm idk it is day 10... it is a possibility someone got it before us.
NIGHT 10 - TRIPLE TRIBAL COUNCIL
But when Miramar headed to Tribal Council, they were in for a pleasant surprise.
Miramar headed to Tribal Council first, and the vote was split 2-1-1-1-0. Foxy abstained, Cow and Alec voted for each other, Ari voted for Foxy while Iz and Wade’s 2 votes on Iz were enough to make her Miramar’s captain. She followed through with her plan to banish Ari.
IZ:
Better luck next time trying to take me out. Ari, adios.
Condado was next, and it was clear some of them were looking to make some cash. Four people abstained from voting to gain $1,700 each while Fifi and Sid were the only two who voted Awesome to be their captain.
AWESOME:
Alright so I just want to say thank you to everyone who voted for me. It wasn't an easy decision and I wish I had more time to talk about this. There is no easy choice on who to cut but before I say who I'm going to cut, this is not a cut to leave the game. This is my bet who I think has the best chances to come back from the cave. I've really enjoyed getting to know all 5 of you and this wasn't an easy decision, and I'm rooting for this person to get back into the game. So with that being said, I'm going to have to send Sid to the cave.
SID:
Would have appreciated a heads up
I trusted some people but looks like it isn't it
But I'm ready to comeback
Because this boy likes battles
And when Bayola went to Tribal Council, the vote also went according to plan. Sachi received four votes, with Luka and Nivy abstaining. But then Sachi made his decision, making it clear the plan had changed.
SACHI:
So again thank you for voting me as your new captain. With a swap coming, this is a v v difficult decision for me. For all we know there might not be any swap. I know you all entrusted me on this. But I think I have to be selfish for now. I feel like I'm probably not in a good social standing here along with Nivy so it's probably not in my best interest to send her off. I know you've all told me that I'm good but still. With that, I'm sending to CoC one of the most well-connected castaways here. If you think I'm a snake for this, I apologize. This is more of a self-preservation move in case we don't swap next who knows. I'm sending Heidi to CoC. You're really a pleasure to talk to but I feel like you're very well-connected in our tribe now and I don't wanna be an easy out next.
NIGHT 10 - CAVE OF CORRUPTION
Three boats converge on the Cave of Corruption through the moonlight, one each carrying Ari, Sid, and Heidi. As the boats approach the shore, Mario emerges from the shelter on the beach to greet them.
MARIO:
Ari, Heidi, Sid, you will be attending a 3-person tribal council where one of you will become the 4th player voted out of this game. Afraid to be ganged up by the other 2 players and have no chance to fight for your own $urvival? Well, here is a lifeline: the three of you are to compete against each other in the so called $alvation Challenge to win a one-off $uper Idol that will protect you from being voted off AND an idol token to bring along with you when you return to the game.
It's a $uper Idol because it can save you after the votes have been read. The winner of this challenge will only be revealed AFTER the votes have been cast and read at the 3-person bloodbath tribal.
Here's how this very high stake challenge works: It is very simple and does not require you spending any of your money on it. You are to be tested how well you have been speculating or tracking information about your fellow competitors’ wealth.
To win the one time $uper idol and an idol token, you need to make the closest guesstimate to the following question: What is the current TOTAL amount of money held by the remaining 18 players in the game (including yourself)?
But before Ari and Sid could submit their guesses, Heidi had an offer.
HEIDI:
I have a proposal for you two
I'll leave it here for you to consider. You both vote me, I need to stop playing but you tell everyone I tried then you make sure none of those captains win. Deal?
ARI:
Aww if you’re sure... revenge will definitely be served. I’m still going to go all out in this challenge because that’s who I am.
I just realized we can tell whatsoever story we want. So we can have some fun with that
SID:
Omg aww
Thank you so much Heidi!
This gesture really means a lot
I wish we could have been swapped earlier.
Me and ari wil take care of it deal!
Ari and Sid held true to their word. They both voted Heidi, and when Ari won the $uper Idol, he decided not to save Heidi with it, sending her packing.
$PECIES:
Heidi, the tribe has $poken. It's time for you to go.
FINAL WORDS
HEIDI:
Heeyyyy! I had a great time and I met lots of awesome people. I meant what I said in my profile, I love to talk so anyone who chatted with me that was all genuine and if you enjoyed it hit me up when you're done too. No hard feelings.
Next time on $urvivor…
